Tiny Tornadoes
NEW THIS YEAR! Tiny Tornadoes is our swim team's introductory program for our youngest swimmers who are unable to swim the full length of the pool. They should be able to put their face in the water (comfortably without tears) and swim a few feet to ensure water safety. The goal is to transition your tornado into a Hurricane.
Where to start:
We encourage parents of young potential swimmers (ages 4-6) to sign their child up to attend our pre-season clinics in order to be assessed to see if they should register for the team, register for Tiny Tornadoes, or need to wait until next year. Children who can swim the full length of the pool should sign up for the Hurricanes swim team. In order to sign up for Tiny Tornadoes, children should be able to put their face in the water (comfortably without tears) and swim a few feet to ensure water safety. We are focusing on developing children that can already swim to span the length of the pool by the end of the season.
How it works:
Tiny Tornadoes will be able to practice Monday, Wednesday, and Friday mornings from 10:15-11am along with our 8 & Under practice group. Tiny Tornadoes will start practice on June 8th and will end July 10th (unless they advance to the Hurricanes team). There will be coaches/ CITs in the water with your swimmers. If your swimmer becomes able to swim the length of the pool and the swim team board approves, they can be moved to the Hurricanes swim team and practice during any 8 & Under practice Monday-Friday mornings or evenings.
The fee for a Tiny Tornado is $125. There is no multi swimmer discount, but this does count toward family maximum.
Swim Meets:
Tiny Tornadoes will participate in a pre-meet Tornado Takeoff kickboard race (with a CIT in the water with them) at our two home meets. We’ll ask that you declare your swimmer as attending for those meets. This honorary event will happen after the National Anthem, but before Event 1 of the meet. For away meets, if the team we’re visiting offers and invites us to participate in a developmental race, we will be sure to indicate that in the weekly email that requests for swimmers to declare for the upcoming meet. If there is no race offered, Tiny Tornado swimmers will simply declare that they will not attend.
Parent volunteer responsibilities:
Our meets are run by our amazing parent volunteers and we are so grateful for them! We always welcome additional help; however, volunteering for meets is not a requirement for Tiny Tornado parents.
